Choosing A Tarot Deck

The key to the Tarot is in the symbols used on the cards. They are the catalysts for awakening your intuition. It is very important that you are confortable with the images on the cards you choose.

Throughout the last five centuries, the Tarot has been used mainly by the royal classes, occult sects, educated philosophers and and witches or gypsies. The insights and information discovered by gypsies and witches was transmitted out by word of mouth and mostly hidden from public. Interesting enough, the privileged class was developing and publishing most information we have today on Tarot. The esoteric philosophers, Emperors, Kings and Popes saw the Tarot  as a tool to be used by the initiated, the privileged, the people who had time to study and understand an intricate maze of symbolism.

General public got access to the Tarot only in 20th century.

Human Symbols

Tarot decks generally treat children as creative, energetic creatures who are ready to begin their life with faith and enthusiasm. Young people could be a bit crazy and willing to take a risk to adventure. Middle-aged people are depicted as leaders of society.

Some people tend to feel that they have power when they control others. This control involves some people setting and enforcing the limits and conditions of other people growth and development.

There is a better way of looking at power and control. We can gain control over our lives without controlling the lives of others; others can control their lives without melting into our lives. We each have personal power to be ourselves, individually and in groups. We can take charge of your lives, make choices based on our needs, and become responsible to and for ourselves. We should not allow to make other people decisions for us, to be responsible for us, or to take charge.

As you examine Tarot deck, be aware of the symbols in them because these symbols represent powerful concepts. Choose the Tarot deck that mostly reflects your values. Choose a deck containing symbolism that holds meaning for you. Choose a deck that is full of symbolism that intrigue you.

You also choose a deck that looks good to you. look for a deck that is attractive in its design. Find one that appeals to your sense of taste and esthetics. (Though, it did not work for me because I sometimes buy cards for the collection, not the reading, and when I try to use cards it is hard to read because symbols does not make sense. I would not recommend for readings the following decks: Witchy tarot and 1001 night tarot. The first deck just does not make sense and the 1001 nights has beautiful images but pictures are too small and the symbolism is not all clear.)

You can choose a deck that intuitively "feels" right to you. Look at several decks; then see which one you keep coming back to you.

Choose a deck that is a size and shape comfortable to handle.

It is better to use more than one deck. Different deck will give you a bit different mood while reading. It is better to use your own value system. your philosophy, your taste and your intuition. You will have deck that fits you.
